A Champion Has Been Crowned…
…and it’s the White-Throated Sparrow! I didn’t realize they were going to wait until Monday to announce the winner (oops) and I had an endoscopy that morning and then a migraine on and off for the next couple of days so here we finally are. I donated $50 to the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin—thank you to everyone who commented!
I chose Mourning Doves for the doodle because they’ve been a personal favorite since I moved into this house. Did you know that they’re native to the U.S.? Check out Cornell Lab’s All About Birds page on Mourning Doves for a bunch of cool facts, like the oldest known Mourning Dove, a hypothesis for why they’re able to survive in the desert, and the interesting way they eat.
I’ll see you again at the end of this month for a discussion of You Are Here: Poetry in the Natural World edited by Ada Limón. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this beautiful spring.
