Happy Halloween!

Saturday 10.29.22

Inspiration for this card credited to Lucy, my sister Karinne’s black cat, who is more entertaining in real life than anything I could ever draw, and our cat Annie, who delights in publicly torturing her toy mice and collecting them in a location still unknown to me. Annie has, however, found more joy in the last two days in thieving the screw cap from the first floor toilet and smacking it around the living room to destroy my sanity.

Every year, Lucas and I seem to argue about when Halloween is. Yes, I know that Halloween is Oct. 31st and Oct. 30 is All Hallow’s Eve, BUT to any kid the only thing that matters is what day do you dress up and trick or treat? That’s Halloween. For us that was Oct. 30. Anyone else in this camp? This is all to say — that’s why I’m sending this card Oct. 30, the day I consider the sentiment ‘Happy Halloween!’ most appropriate.

Favorite Reads this Fall

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
by Gabrielle Zevin
Gabrielle Zevin wrote another book I love, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, so I pre-ordered this one as soon as I heard about. I loved reading a book about creative partnership and pretty early-on thought Lucas might like it too. He just finished reading it as an audiobook yesterday and loved it too. Video game related reading from Sierra Club: Mario vs the Anthropocene.

Ghost Forest
by Pik-Shuen Fung
This isn’t a book of many words, but it didn’t need them to hit me right in the heart. A random purchase from Yu & Me Books on our New York trip.

Ranma 1/2
by Rumiko Takahashi
A classic, fun reread for me. Perfect for a miserable migraine day I needed a boost of humor.

A Silent Voice
by Yoshitoki Oima and translated by Steven LeCroy
This seven-book series was turned into a movie that I saw on Netflix first. Check out the preview. I recommend both. This multi-faceted examination of bullying, guilt, and friendship stayed with me long after I finished it.
