Newport State Park Candlelight Hike

Description of a hike taken in Newport State Park (full text below)

The candlelight snowshoe hike at Door County’s Newport State Park was filled with starlight thanks to the park’s distant location on Wisconsin’s thumb. Pausing at a clearing before the end of the trail gave us a magnificent view of constellations and a sense of mutual appreciation with our fellow humans/hikers. Despite the slippery walk over melted then refrozen snow, I am also proud to say I did not faceplant like the time we tried cross-country skiing up there. On the way into the park, we saw someone’s heart-shaped lights near the driveway, a sweet reminder of Valentine’s Day approaching.
